Plan de Corones (Kronplatz) is the house mountain of Brunico (Bruneck), at 2,275 metres, reached by cable cars from Riscone, Valdaora, Perca and the Furkel Pass. The summit is a broad, flat plateau — children arrive at the top without any prior climb, and the whole family can move around freely. For families with mixed ages that works particularly well.
On the plateau lies the Little Kronplatz adventure park, which explains the ski area in miniature: a snow groomer to climb inside, a snow cannon that makes soap bubbles, a magic carpet and a summer tubing run on air-cushioned rings. Admission is free, and the park is open in both summer and winter. Alongside it stand a bird enclosure and a children's petting station.
Add to that the Concordia 360° Panoramic Trail, a loop around the summit that is expressly pram-friendly. Also in the region: a children's climbing route, the dolomites.zoo with animals of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies (Fanes-Sennes-Prags) Nature Park, and one of Europe's longest ziplines in San Vigilio (St. Vigil). In winter, the ski area is one of the most family-oriented in South Tyrol, with children's zones at every base station and a Kids Safety Park.

When is the best time to visit Plan de Corones with children?
In summer, roughly from late May to early November, the cable cars run and the adventure park is open. June is particularly pleasant, because there's still little going on. July and August are the main holiday season and correspondingly busier, but all the offerings are running. September and October bring clear views and cooler nights, and quieter. In winter, from early December to mid-April, skiing is the main draw, with children's zones and toboggan runs. Christmas, New Year and the carnival holidays (Faschingsferien) are peaks; late January and early March are quieter.
