Why Brač?

What defines Brač?

At 1h 15min, Brač is the fastest-reachable seaside destination from Bolzano — the airport lies on the island itself.

Brač lies off the coast of Dalmatia, opposite Split, and is Croatia's third-largest island. It is known for its white limestone, from which — among other buildings — Diocletian's Palace in Split was built; the old quarries in the island's interior can be visited today. The two most important towns are Bol on the south coast and Supetar in the north, connected by a road across the island.

The advantage over other Adriatic islands is the arrival. The flight takes 1h 15min, and because the airport lies on the island, the ferry from Split — which can otherwise cost several hours — is skipped. From the airport it's around 20 minutes to Bol and 30 to Supetar. That makes Brač one of the most accessible beach destinations in the entire SkyAlps network.

The best-known spot is the Zlatni Rat near Bol, a narrow spit of pebbles reaching far out into the sea, changing its shape according to current and wind. Behind it lies a pine forest for shade. Above it all rises Vidova Gora — at 778 metres, the highest point of all the Adriatic islands, with a view down onto the Zlatni Rat and over to Hvar. In the interior of the island are working stonemasons' villages such as Škrip, Pučišća and Milna, and small monasteries surrounded by olive groves.

What is there to do on Brač?

Brač is manageable and can be explored in a few days. The south around Bol has the best-known beaches; the north around Supetar is quieter and closer to the ferry to Split. In the interior lie villages, quarries and Vidova Gora.

When is the best time to visit Brač?

The season runs from May to October. In May the island is green and empty, but the sea is still cool. June is one of the best months: warm, swimmable and still quiet. July and August bring temperatures above 30°C and the most visitors, especially in Bol; Croats travel domestically during the school holidays. September is our recommendation: warm sea, mild days, fewer visitors and lower prices. October remains mild but the first hotels start to close. From November to April SkyAlps does not fly the route.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Most Dalmatian islands are reached via Split and a ferry crossing, which can cost several hours depending on the connection.

Brač has its own airport on the island, served direct from Bolzano in 1h 15min. From the airport it's around 20 minutes to Bol and 30 to Supetar — the sea is genuinely close, no waiting on a quay. That makes Brač the fastest way from Bolzano to a swimming holiday on the Adriatic.
