SkyAlps flies to two of the Balearics direct from Bolzano: Ibiza and Menorca. Both lie in the western Mediterranean but differ fundamentally — the choice decides the whole character of the trip.
Ibiza is livelier and offers more choice of restaurants and excursions. The nightlife reputation is real, but it concentrates in a few zones in the south and west; the north is sparsely populated and quiet. The old town Dalt Vila above the harbour has been UNESCO World Heritage since 1999. In summer, day boats run to the neighbouring island of Formentera.
Menorca is the opposite. Since 1993 the entire island has been under Biosphere Reserve protection, which has strictly limited building heights and development. Instead of hotel fronts there are individual calas — small coves with pale sand and very shallow entry, some of them reachable only on foot through pine forest. For families and quiet-seekers, this is the more relaxed of the two islands.
Ibiza or Menorca?
The two islands speak to different needs. Menorca is quieter, more sparsely built and has flatter bays — the better choice for families. Ibiza has more gastronomy, more excursion destinations and, with Dalt Vila, an old town worth seeing.

When is the best time to visit the Balearics?
The season runs from May to October. May is mild and green, but the sea is still fresh — the best time, though, for the Camí de Cavalls on Menorca. June is warm, swimmable and still quiet. July and August bring heat and the largest crowds, and on Ibiza the full club season. September is our favourite: warm sea, mild days, fewer visitors. October is mild but the first hotels start to close. From November to April SkyAlps does not fly the routes.

The island is under biosphere protection; there's hardly any high-rise, and the calas are mostly sheltered bays with pale sand and very shallow entry — children can stand in the water for a long way out. Ibiza is more lively and has more excursion options — Formentera by ferry, Dalt Vila, the Ses Salines Nature Park — which older children may find more entertaining. Rule of thumb: with young children → Menorca; with school-age children plus older → Ibiza.
